If you're interested in 3d, pick up a student copy of max or blender.
Then look up the joan of ark tutorial. It covers pretty much everything you'll need to start.

Gogo could probably help you with 3ds max, and I'll help with blender if you choose it.

but I know what catched you in so I'll suggest you to search for NURBS modeing.
