|
|
I've been running Xubuntu on my Sony VAIO PCG-TR3AP for some time, but decided to make it duel boot into a light version of Windows XP to run some programs.
However i am unable to get drivers for these devices
I've used "Driver Genius" but it hasnt tracked down any of these which i hoped it would.
Has any one got any suggestions?
Also for some reason there's no indications for the battery :/ it will run from battery power. however it does not show me any options or timings for the battery or even acknowledge it's existence :/
Thank you very much in advance for any one that can help

The spec sheet for your model doesn't list an audio manufacturer, try generic AC97 drivers for audio. Given that you have the PCI bridge drivers not located, you need to find out the mobo manufacturer and grab board drivers from them. Motherboard manufacturer wasn't listed in system specs either.

But why? I imagine if you used the factory OS provided with your Vaio you'd have no problems.

The default WiFi driver makes the computer blue screen and the original software is so packed with vaio crap that it is extremely sluggish

The problem is, not using the factory OS provided with the VAIO. Using a ripped up, feature removed version of it to save on 1GB of disk space. A lot of people who remove all those features don't really know what they're doing. They just tick a bunch of tick-boxes then release an iso.
VAIOs are partially quality products. Only if you get their high-end models though. The low-spec are just like Toshiba or eMachines so they can compete on price for people who look at the price tag rather than the quality of the product.

The wifi driver causing bsod is because it's not compatible with the latest XP service pack. If that sony has a Intel Centrino sticker on it, by default it's required to have a Intel wifi adapter. You can get the latest driver for that adapter from Intel's website.
The OS disc you have is screwed up as most of the drivers on that list are
automatically detect by Windows itself especially IEEE 1394 and USB.
If these don't detect, that disc of your has a huge chunk of drivers taken out.
Most likely by some idiot who wants to get rid of legacy devices and epically fail as USB are also legacy devices since it appear back with Windows 95.
