| Nearly useless, dunno how you can live with that, instead they should make some uber os that has uber OC features.

Just see this like game development.
Developers aim at consoles, so pc games get crappy console ports
windows 8 is developed for handhelds with a touchscreen, so windows 8 for the pc will actually be a handheld OS ported to PC
you should see the default config of fedora 15. It's as if it's made by someone who never does anything but browse

Guess I'm staying with w7.
Instead they should make a faster version of windows instead of just looks.

The speed of the OS is mainly determined by your hardware, some software - which I'm sure they still work on fixing current issues that slow it down and what not.

Yeah you're right, but lowering the 500-700mb ram usage with nothing running on, with a clean w7 installation is nice.

They're catering to the market, and the market for computers is moving onto smaller and more portable devices. | That's why they need 2 versions of windows: Windows 8 portable, which will go on tablets and such, and Windows 8 regular, to go on desktops. |
That's not really practical from a marketing view when you can put 2 in 1 while making more money.
Windows 8 seems eh..they need to focus more on features more than looks to be honest. Like someone has already said, it just looks like they wanna over simplify things.

It is very probable, actually. It would be the ssme thing if the new IOS on the iPad 2 was on the macbooks.
They are two different products, desktop and tablet, but the "hipper" tablet is set on the main focus rather than the powerful desktop.

| That's because the tech today is all about mobility, you aren't gonna take a 30 pound desktop with all the power cables to a cafe, would you? I understand what Microsoft is doing, but they're not doing it right..imo. Tablets and portable devices are what people are buying and using. So since Microsoft is a company, they are obviously gonna target that market so they can end up making more money. I just wish they could do it in a less....less complicated way. If that makes any sense at all.

I'm guessing no one has kept up with Windows mobile devices here. Windows 8 is just the same concept of Windows Phone 7 using a tile surface ("live tiles" on the phones; probably will be on Win8 as well though) with a pivoting "tab" setup. Given that their name is Windows for a reason (hurr durr windows) I doubt they will ever up and remove the normal style of how everyone is used to seeing Windows as it is now.
They will more then likely do public beta testing as they did with Windows 7 because of how much of a success it was. Which in turn will lead to a nice majority demanding the default look if they do plan to not include it; which I doubt.

Why can't people just stick with laptops and netbooks instead of tablets? We are almost going backwards in the technology evoloution.
