By the same hackers (supposedly), and they still have zero leads after a month of investigating. They are considering offering a reward to anyone capable of catching the ones doing all this damage. Oh, and even though Sony claimed to go online this weekend, it seems that has once again been postponed due to the recent attack. Their incompetence is so apparent, that it has become hilarious to me.

its not incompetence :/

if the hackers were targeting other company it would be the same.

I'm totally on Sony's side for this one. They are trying to fix this. It is not easy and they have been already damaged a lot.

You wouldn't be if you were a developer. Sending creditcard information as cleartext (f.e. www.playstation.com?creditcardnumber=12345678910bla&cvv2=321&name=stuff&etc), using outdated software ranging from 2001 to 2007 (apache, sql, etc) with all of the publicly known vulnerabilities, and basically putting all their 'security' in their unhackable products. They were 'damaged' because they got lazy.

It's true that this sucks ass for those that own a Playstation. But if this is truly retaliation for Sony's 'practices' towards those that were able to circumvent their build in security on the PS3 (it's beginning to appear that way with the frequency and lack of gain for the hackers, the last two at least), then I implore people to look at the bigger picture. The law is biased towards those that have money. Yet outside of the law, those with brains rule supreme. Money means nothing anymore. This entire situation makes me wish I was half as smart as the guys who brought this giant to their knees.

Sony could've easily prevented these attacks. All they had to do was keep their software updated, require some type of actual authentication to get onto the dev network, and hire people who are willing to monitor the network. That would've have prevented the majority of possible attacks, and even if someone did get in they'd have several guys that would fix the problem. All in all it is their fault. This is why XBL cost money, and it's also why XBL is better than PSN.

Oh, I totally see now.

This is why we can't have nice things. People will blatantly work their ass off and ruin other people's fun simply to prove a fucking point in a petty argument.

Thank you for enlightening me.

Yes, because "Sorry we're not online yet because our network was hacked for a third time" is a good way to cover up the fact that it might take a little while longer to get the network back up.

Corporate greed has made the law unfavorably biased to those who lack proper funds. Because thanks to Sony, the internet is now a place where the 'freedom of information' right is no longer a right. Instead, when we decide to post research information (not an application, just information) about a products' weaknesses, we can now get arrested, and have our hardware taken away within .1 seconds after posting it.

I do not know for sure if the attacks are a retaliation for recent events linked to the aforementioned, or if it's just a way for those hackers to get rich quick by selling the obtained information. What I do know is that Sony deserved this, and I care not for the fact that I'm currently unable to play online. This is like when someone gets away with murder, only to get fatally hit by a car as he leaves the courtroom.

Fuck Sony.
