I third the Nod32 I use this on multiple computers if you do not want to go with this I would recommend Norton Antivirus its what the rest of my family uses and it works pretty well.

This is why they shouldn't ask a forum, instead, he should Google it.

Honestly, no antivirus is perfect or best. Each one has its own definitions and finding different types of trojans, maleware, spyware, etc. You would have to install all of them on your computer to be absolutely sure you cannot get infected and even then, new virus come out the same way as biological viruses are mutating. So, the honest to god truth is:

The best protection against infection, is the person stops using the computer.

or...

Learn to use the internet wisely and research for reputational websites rather than for Cracks, Music Rips, etc as these are the most common places of infection.

Using more than one antivirus makes them have conflict with each other. It also takes up way too much of your cpu, making multitasking hard.

Not really. For years I've used AVG Free and Trend Micro's online scanner as my second scanner without issues. Once you have the complete shebang done you only need to do incrementals, and a full scan every week or so.

The best? Common sense, even an older version works, say the one from 2000. After that, my opinion would be MSE if you're low on available resources/want a free one... paid I'd go with NOD32. Worst in my opinion is Norton/McAfee due to their annoyingly hard to navigate GUI designs, for someone who's never used them before restoring false-positive files from quarantine takes a lot of Google searching to find a guide matching your version of the AV.

None. Yes none really!. Don't use IE (or the older versions). And only download programs/software that comes from a trusted source and always virustotal every new program that your not sure is clean.

I haven't used an AV since after the first year i bought my PC and the times i have been infected is merely twice or thrice maybe in 7+ long years, that too from flashdrives or when someone else used my system. Then i got this USB Disk Security software and haven't got infected once.

However, i would only recommend it if you have at least an intermediate knowledge of computers or are an advanced user.

If you are a n00b, Nod32 or Kaspersky would be your best friends.

Source: Myself. IMO AVs are a waste of money, you don't need em if you have a slight knowledge of PCs.
