Got a piano book. Been wanting to play piano for some time, so it's a start.

What did you guys get?

Actually yeah, the books reads that I should play the major chords with my thumb, middle, and pinky, but I often use my ring finger instead of my pinky, should I force myself to use my pinky, or will this not really hinder me.

It will probably hinder you because some songs may require a switch to using the ring finger after playing a chord (sounds weird when talking about pianos).
Just use your pinky, get used to it, it'll be better in teh long run.

I know. I play the piano and I don't press some keys with the finger the book tells me to. Also, some books teach different fingering. But imho, unless you're gonna go professional or teach piano...
