I am pretty sure this could do more than moderately good gaming, Asus, is a great company. It has an i7, and a 5700 series GFX card, IMO thats a powerful combination

I agree with you, Asus is a wonderful company. I recently bought a laptop from them and I've had no problems (2 months so far). I bought an Asus UL80.

Specs :

Intel Core i3 @ 1.20GHz

4GB DDR3 RAM

450GB HDD (7200 RPM)

Nvidia Optimus

Desktop Specs :
Intel Celeron (dual core) @ 2.40GHz

4GB DDR2 RAM

Intel GPU (Came with processor) (LOL idk model)

300GB HDD (10,000 RPM)

It's not much but it does the job. Very Happy

thanks for the feedback.

Also, stupid question here, but what does a dual, quad, or whatever core actually mean?

I'm pretty sure it has to do with the number of threads your computer can handle, which corresponds to the number of tasks you can do at once (?).

Some programs and games such as WinRAR are optimized for a single core, therefore, a Core 2 Duo running at 2.0ghz, would be better than your Core i7 running at 1.6ghz.

More recent games are optimzed for dual-quad core. Depending on what games you're planing to play, you would have to adjust accordingly.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm surprised it only has 4GB of RAM, if they're sticking an i7 in it I'd expect at least 6GB, if not 8.

Hope you may understand better...

Core- the actual computing unit within a single physical processor
e.g. dual core- there are 2 computing units
tri-core- there are 3 computing units
quad core- there are 4 computing units
Hex core- there are 6 computing units
Octo-core- you should get the pattern now

Certain models of them Core i series will support Hyper Thread (HT). This allows each core on the processor to make a virtual copy of itself. In a windows environment, these are called threads.

e.g.
Core i7 which is a quad core has 4 computing units, each core can make a virtual copy of itself, this, then totals to 8 threads.

In the desktop environment, most of the Core i7 are quad cores, but on in the mobile segment.

Mobile version of Core i7 are either dual core or quad core so pay attention to the fine details.
