if you shoot one portal onto the floor and another directly on top of it, wouldn't the area between both portals be zero gravity and thus you would just float rather than fall through the floor and come out the ceiling? No, the portals are actually portals. Whatever mass goes through these things comes out in the other side. Since there's gravity under the floor portal, your body moves towards that portal and go through it, coming out in the top portal, going on forever while the gravity increases your falling speed.
