Where do you get them? When I download them from planet renders, they are always way too small...

if you look at his tutorial, his sprite fits really nicely, but everytime I find a sprite sheet its either too small, or the sheet is not transparent

Sprite sheets are usually pink, green, or blue.
You cut the base out, like a greenscreen.

what do i use to cut the base? if i use that magic wand, say the background is pink, and i click the pink parts, then some pink parts of the sprite will get deleted too.

Well most programs that use spritesheets don't recognize transparency, so it has to be pink, but if you're using this for an image then yes use the magic wand with 0 tolerance.

depends on the site,
http://www.retrogamezone.co.uk/superstreetfighter2turbo.html
this one has transparent bgs for most of them. Even if you couldn't use the wand tool you can just grab a pixel eraser to remove the bg.
