You have to save the settings when you change the mode, or else it won't save. Hurrr

I think he meant you don't damage the bios if you don't "save" the setting since some people are afraid to venture into this area?
If OP finds that setting and changes then he will need to save it, in order for it to take affect.

ACHI has nothing to do with optical drives as it just enables features build into the HDD like NCQ, and e/SATA hot swapping.
Also enabling ACHI from a non-ACHI OS will result in a BSOD no matter how much you try, but that you haven't, which means originally the SATA controller we're set to RAID.
RAID includes both ACHI and non-enhanced SATA capabilities thus you can
switch from all 3 settings without BSOD while booting into the OS.
