So I'm going to be building a computer soon, but I really have no idea what I need, and I'm not very tech savvy. I want to be able to run games like TF2 at a good FPS, doesn't have to be at the highest settings but that would be nice. I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything, I'm just doing this for the hell of it, and because I think it'll be a nice thing to try out. So basically I want to know what parts I'll need, a vague price range if you know, and maybe some suggestions on specific models I should buy. I haven't done any research yet, as I have no idea where to start or what I should be looking for, and I really have no knowledge on video card models or any thing right now, so I'm looking for some help with that.

How much are you willing to spend and do you need the whole stuff like keyboard, mouse, and monitor?

TF2? I recently got myself an ATI Radeon HD 4670 and it runs it at the resolution I like on full settings, but that resolution isn't that high. To be honest though you can't have that much of a great monitor right?

I can't tell you how many threads there are here asking for computers to run games "like TF2." Honestly, just about everyone who comes in here asking for help on a computer build that's a first timer brings up TF2.

1. TF2 does not have very high requirements at all. My old piece of shit could run it, a new piece of shit could max it.

2. We're going to need a budget. You could be looking to spend $500 and we could give you an $800 build, or you could be willing to spend $800 and we give you something for $500 that dissatisfies you.

3. Like kls said, we also need to know what is included. Are you planning on reusing monitor/mouse/keyboard/etc.? Do you want us to include an optical drive?

4. Do you need a guide or do you think you know what to do?

Also, what are some of the other games you'll be playing? We'll need to make sure it meets specifications of the most powerful one.

1. I know TF2 doesn't require a very good computer. Basically it doesn't need to be a great build.

2. Err I'll have to get back to you on this one. I realize you can't do much until I give you a budget so I'll find out soon.

3. Yes, I'll need a monitor, mouse and keyboard but they don't have to be pro gaming grade. Also I'll need an optical drive.

4. I have no idea what I'm doing, I'll definitely need a guide.

Right now I've got TF2, CS, and Dawn of War II, but I'm looking into buying some more games once I build the computer, like MW2. I won't be playing Dawn of War much/at all though.

I picked out some stuff for you.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103843

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102854

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211364

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073

CASE: It really doesn't matter what case you get. Apparently, Shota disagrees with the 1455 people who say the Antec 300 is a 5 star case, and the 336 people who say it's a 4 star case. Any cooler master centurion case is a good shot, though.

OPTICAL DRIVE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016

MOBO/OS COMBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.395188

MONITOR: Any monitor is fine, but this is just a recommendation for a fine, inexpensive monitor I've happened to have used before: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009210

Edited with not-expired combos. I'm pretty sure that excluding a monitor that fits your price.

Edit: It's actually exactly $50 over your 600 budget. I'd recommend you just stomach that little bit, it's hard to spend much less on a computer while still getting moderately up to date parts.

If you think so. Personally, w7 is worth the 100 bucks it costs.
