It looks simple to me, just a couple of brushes with the render pasted on top of it.

Try to match the colours of the render with the background.
I know it's a little difficult with this as the render is somewhat dull, but it always helps to have a good colour scheme.

Have a look at the rule of thirds, sticking your render in the middle isn't always the way to go.
You'll want to (in future) work in a light source to your pieces, so experiment with some soft brushes - or lighting effects in the render filters menu. Obviously make sure it matches the lighting of your focal.

Also to make a simple solid border you can create a new layer, select all and go to edit>stroke.

Look up a guide or 2 and the most important thing you can do is experiment with all the tools in photoshop.
