If you can find and afford a 5970, do it. Otherwise a 5850 would keep you coo for the next few years I would Imagine. How much more power could games besides crysis possibly need?

Also depends on what gamer you are. Some people play in like 800 x600 and some play with crazy resolutions and highest details possibly. I recommend the 5850 because i don't think its even worth getting anything like a 5970.

Btw. What happened to XFX?

Sapphire gave me DOA twice Smile
Never had a problem with sapphire. As for XFX. Their fans have gotten worse, their cards are voltage locked, and they have to use fake robberies for marketing ploys. Its just sad. Go MSI or Gigabyte. HIS, sapphire, diamond. They are all ok. Power color strikes me weird. They are a lot cheaper so I stay away.

Power color cards aren't that much cheaper anymore, they're a pretty big vendor at this point. I wouldn't be weirded out by them.

Bigger does not mean its better.
Sapphire was the sole provider of ATi cards during the Radeon 9700Pro days and all other card makers started to come later.

XFX is a newb in the ATi field since they never got permission to make ATi cards in the first place. It's most likely with the success of the HD4000 series that the slaves for the green gorilla was a piece of the pie.
EVGA wanted too, but they got none.

Also no matter what, all box art by ATi venders are gay and hideous.

Alright Hero, seriously just shut up about this. They didn't become desperate and had to use crazy viral marketing to promote their products, they just wanted to. They have a history of inventive marketing strategies. It's not like they staged a fake robbery in order to trick people into buying their products. They obviously knew it would only take a day for people to realize that it was not real. They like being different, it's not always a bad thing. I'll agree with you on the other things, as I've never particularly liked XFX, but there was nothing wrong with that.

They has been doing some faggotry shit when they jumped to the ATI boat, non reference board, shitty fan, vram problems, bios conflicting, under power, cheap out materials.
Yes, i believe making a XXX edition card is a market strag, totally, fuck the people who buys a normal card, we won't let you overclock on that shit unless you spend extra 20-30 on our XXX edition.
Also double life-time warranty never worked, in fact, their customer support has been gone complete shitstorm,

Finally my graphic card has arrived (HD5850, thanks to all who replied), so I installed it to my system, uninstall the old drivers and install the latest (Catalyst 10.4). The only game I've ran was GTA 4 and it wasn't up to my expectations.

My old graphics HD2900XT perform the exactly the same as this HD5850 @ 1920x1200. I expected more from a card that is 3 gens newer than my old one.

From what I've read it all says GTA 4 is a bad port, but one thing that puzzles me is THG's benchmark where they get a fps of 56.

One difference is in terms of hardware specs and OS, but that does not seem to be the case since other users with similar hardware as THG can't get a good frame rate as well.

Oh well, might try the free bundle game Dirt 2 to see how it goes, just 10 hours: 47mins: 33 seconds before download completes.

Trust me, any issue with GTA4 is a port issue. I play maxed out with all the trimmings on a 4850. Its more cpu heavy as it rages my quad with 3 cores maxing out, shows 83% cpu in usage when I run it by its self. Other games should run way better. What kind did you get BTW?

This one

I've notice the vents at the rear, don't really help draw in cool air since they are closed off by the design of the shroud. So the PEGs at the position does not really affect air flow. And with the extra ports, the shroud is designed to direct air out though the vents, which probably can't handle the whole job thus hot air is blown both out and into the case with the slot vents located at the top of the card.
