so basically i have a motherboard that has dual gigabit lan ports and i was wondering if you could connect 2 lan cables to it and double your bandwidth either from 2 different modems or just one and if you can please tell me how

Wait, you said two modems. Then you need two cables coming to your house too. It's called load balancing.

Some users with 2 modems will opt to get a router with dual wan ports.
This provides a combine in bandwidth or redundancy.*

* Need to have different ISP as in if one ISP fails, the other is still up and running.

You can't do this (easily) with a standard desktop machine. 99.9% of software won't support it for a start, and secondly you've got to have two internet connections.
