Buy the EZFlash Vi, they released an update last thursday that fixed the anti-piracy check implemented by Nintendo. I have the EZFlash Vi, and I can vouch for its proper functioning. Haven't turned my Nintendo DS off for three days now. I've been playing Pokémon SoulSilver every night for an hour or two, before going to bed. No freezes.

EDIT: US Version.

Trust me, get the Acekard 2i. It has monthly firmware updates, it's compatible with DS/l/i/iXL and it doesn't need patching at most games. It's worth the money.

Pretty cheap, and works great. Fast update (Pokemon SoulSilver and HeartGold came out the 16th in the US, and they had a fix on the 24th. First team to have it fully working on their Flashcard).

Did you read the README.txt and actually follow it? Because if it crashes, you're doing it wrong.
