Hi i got a m1631u gateway laptop, and last night well i was doing sumthing, then sudenly my screen kinda got choppy and then it shutdown. I turned it back on and the only thing it does is turn on the light on the power button and the cd tray light and the wireless. Please help anyone....

Can't think of any more reasons from the brief description. Since you said that the monitor was choppy, my money's on the video card.

As inquired above, what were you doing? Gaming, watching movies, general office work, etc... Did you drop or bump the laptop as well?

Id say just wait till it normally would have booted, then try to shut it down (with windows 7 its windows-key, key to the right and enter, done). If it can shut down I think it is either your monitor or video card.
Dont know if you can test for a surge or HDD, so I cant give any advice about that other then take it to a store and see if they can figure out whats going on.

It's not like Gateway has a support section on their website or anything.
