Me and a pal were trying to find the ammo for the shotgun in Serious Sam HD, and we've stumbled upon a dead end. After 5 or so pointers, Cheat Engine suggests us to look for the value of eax, and we did like all the other times. Only this is where things got nasty; it gave us 0 results! We can't find our way to the static address and the assembly doesn't give us enough hints either. I've tried to scan for the value the assembly used in the command above our mov, but that didn't work out either, returning with 0 results. Our only hope was the pointerscanner, but that's not the proper way we want to do it as it is too unreliable.
A picture says more than a thousand words, so I've included one of our current situation.
Thanks in advance.

| i think you went wrong earlier than that. looking at that address it is so high, it is most likely part of the memory mapped for a system dll. i don't have any suggestions other than try again.. but pretty sure that is wrong

| Well, the first scan for our ammo resulted in only two addresses, both high up in the 0x7XXXXXXX area. One didn't return any opodes at all so we our path way prety much straight forward, until 5 offsets later...

nice fractal background!
anyways, try different scan types
or try signed, unsigned searches.
try inc, dec value.
lastly, try known, unknown.

| Hmmm, I've tried everything, and the only addresses I keep finding are the ones up in the 0x70000000 area. Also, on an entirely different subject, does anyone else notice that UE3 games crash when trying to see what accessed/writes a pointer?

See if you can find a different path.
E.g instead of picking the first entry in the list when doing a hex scan, try the 2nd, etc...
alternatively, try code injection instead and use that to store the address to a known location and use that
and if that fails, try the pointerscan

We gave up on it, as we got stuck on several games with the same problem.
How is this possible anyway? Is it because the suggested value may only be a temp-register?
Anyway, thanks to the pointerscanner we are still able to find the right static addresses after re-scanning about two to three times, it really makes life easier
Thanks again for making this wonderful program, as it's not only being used for cheating! In fact, I'm using it to find the memory addresses of ammo to create my own support for games using the Novint Falcon, sort of a 3D mouse. If shot = fired, emulate gun force
