Just a quick question, my friend played around with Daemon Tools earlier today, but he by accident made every .lnk file (Shortcuts) open with Daemon Tools, which obviously wont work. So to fix it, he just deleted Daemon Tools and hoped everything would be fine. It didn't work, so he resetted his PC (Via Recovery) to just before he installed Daemon Tools, but that didn't fix it.

So now he asked me for help, and I've tried to search around a little, and all I found was how to change .exe back, on a XP machine, via Registry editting.

He's on Win7, and I'm not that strong in RegEdit, so I wouldn't try to do anything. Maybe there's an easier way which I'm just too blind to see? 0o

Any help appreciated :]

Right-click any .ink file > Open with > Choose default program

What exactly does he want to do with the .ink files?

.lnk LINK LNK. not ink. Shortcut files.

I've tried to associate .lnk=linkfile, and the reg actually seems to be alright, but .. They still won't work?

- Anyway, he decided to format, he's PC is brand new anyway, so nothing on it.. But I'd still like to know a solution to this problem? 0o

I'd imagine they're no longer opening as the shortcut for the target file or something?

That being the case, why not delete them all and make new shortcuts? I dont understand why you would even play with them.

The problem OP is having is his friend somehow managed to get every single file to open with Daemon Tools and for that deleting a shortcut and recreating it won't work.

You'll need to get into the folder options which resets all the files to its proper programs.

And disable UAC first before doing this and then turn it back on when your done. Another is to run it as Administrator if you don't know how to disable UAC.

Instructions:

1. Go to My Computer or Explorer
2. From menu, click on Tools>Folder options
3. Select the File tab
4. Hit the New button
5. Enter Extension "LNK"
6. Hit the advanced button
7. in the associated file box select "shortcut"
8. hit OK and restart
