This isn't a piece that works with depth. And I hate to say it, but graphic design doesn't include a lot of the principles of illustration and drawing.

The continents.
That's what you see when you look at a world map.
The continents = focal point.
What gives even more focus to the map? Labels of places on the maps. What organizes things even further? Longitudinal lines and such things.

One, I did this in 15 minutes or so at school when I had a break. I gave up working on it after that.
Two, things do not need focals. Try looking at real wallpaper, not the one on your desktop but the stuff which coats walls. No focals whatsoever, some don't even have a pattern, just splodges. It's a wallpaper not a painting. What is my collection of mold supposed to be? A wallpaper, nothing more, nothing less.
And yes, I could give it depth and I appreciate that point and I understand exactly what you are saying. I might muster up the effort to work on it sometime. I've thought about it before actually, the depth, that is. And in no way should this last paragraph be related to my intent before hand. This isn't meant to be a grumpy point. :DSASD
