Honestly, what would you do and what would your plan of defense be? Would you be able to cut all emotional ties and kill the ones you love?

I would only stay in a place for so long of a time before moving on, the maximum a week unless it was an extremely sturdy place. I would put trip mines and land mines EVERYWHERE within a mile radius of the place I would be, I would put up video cameras everywhere around the perimiter and have quite the large arsinal of weapons, sub machine guns, shotguns, snipers and quite a large but gas saving vehicle I would make sure to have as many survivers with me but only if I trust them. I would not lot let them drive the truck or even get near the keys for fear of them stealing all of my items. I would "Double Tap" to make sure they were really dead and practice Cardio.

It would drive me insane but I don't care about much family just my grandparents mostly. But I would strive to survive and rebuild the world if I knew I could do it.

Correct way.
Purchase one semi automatic gun (m16) one pistol (colt) and shit loads of ammo.
also a crowbar.
break all your stairs, stay on 2nd floor, kill all zombies.
