although it looks real-ish, it looks like astro-turf to me(in brightened version). good job though. must have taken you forever.

Fixed the lighting setting but I used too much normals value x_x so the grass may look a bit weird
I stopped the render and will fix it tomorrow, also I'll start adding a bit more details than just grass. will add some more plants.

Looks like the kind of material they use to make mini landscapes, you roll it out and make bumps for hills, and it retains shape.
The name eludes me.

its actually.. like this
you make 5 strands of grass and then place them on the terrain made with noise modifiers and some easy modeling. then duplicate them along the terrain with some random modifiers for the algorithm.
ends up being over a million of polygons

I agree the seconf version looks much better. it will look cool once you add plants and stuff. you should add a squirrel.
