Everything else (__in, __in_z, etc) are defined in terms of the helper functions. When _PREFAST_ isn't defined they are all defined as null.

So, talker0, those two code snippets would have absolutely no difference. You are mistaken if you think Irwin's use of SAL made any difference. He merely uses it because it is a good coding practice he is making a habit of.
