Ok, so on this computer I patched my uxtheme.dll so I could used unsugned xp themes. Unfortunately on startup the computer would BSOD and you'd have to restore. Is there a way to patch it without that error because it was really useful but wasn't worth messing up the computer for... If anyone has a method of patching it without that happening please tell me.
I'm using XP SP 2.

| If you had no viruses or problems before this, it sounds like the file was patched incorrectly. Have you tried going into Windows in Safe Mode and repairing? You could boot into a live Linux distro and replace the files manually, if it lets you mount your Windows partition. Oh, and what build of XP SP2 do you have? I could upload the file if you need.

How do you check SP2 build? If I do it again I definitely want to do it right...
Edit:
And if it screws up.. Is there a simple way to reverse? Like saving a copy of uxtheme.dll and if it doesn't work just replacing it again?
Another Edit:
Build is 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.080814-1233 : Service Pack 2

| Attached is my -patched- uxtheme.dll (assuming that's all you need). It's from SP2, same build. Use a live linux distro to replace the files if you don't know how to do it the other way. If all else fails, restore the original system files by doing an XP repair with the install CD.

| Ok thanks alot. Don't I just use a replacer? And if it doesn't work I can just put a backup of the original back?

When i did that, i changed the name of my original uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.dll.old, and if it fucked up, i could start it in Safe mode with command prompt, and from there do:
COPY %windir%/system32/uxtheme.dll.old %windir%/system32/uxtheme.dll
(not sure about %windir%..., u might just use c:/windows/system32...)
