I'm building a new desktop for next year. My old one is just too sucky.
Build
Budget is $1000. It's going to be for heavy gaming and multi-media work (transcoding HD movies and Photoshop). Maybe come CAD too, depending on what our teacher wants us to do in that class.
The 2 HDDs are going to be put in RAID 0 and I might add more HDDs to the array later on. Believe me, I need space. I torrent like 300GB a month o_O.
I'll probably OC the CPU to 3.x GHz. I'm not going to get i7 because $800 starting price is insane.
I'll probably play all 2008 games including Crysis (Warhead) @ 1920x1200 maxed out (maybe AA and AF if FPS allows) on my 26" HDTV. According to reviews, the 4830s in CF almost match a single 280, but for $200 less.
Any comments? I need some help on the case and cooling.

1tb will go in about 3 months if my calculations are correct.
300gb a month (how much he downloads) times 3 = 900gb
Also, I like all of this build. I agree, get a better GFX card.

First of all you don't need that amount of ram.
Get max 4gb of ram. You wont use more.
Get either 4870/4850.
Also if you play alot of games get E8400 instead.
Also overkill psu, its enought with 450/550 corsair.

| I personally would go with the Gigabyte equivalent motherboard. I personally think that you might be better off getting one better card (HD 4870/GTX260) rather than 2 cards, if you're running at lower resolutions. 8GB of RAM is overkill, even for extreme-gamers. 4GB is enough for just about all tasks excluding digital rendering and high-resolution art and video designing. Although the AC Freezer 7 Pro is a good cooler for it's price, I would consider something more expensive to be within the $1000 budget limit (maybe an Ultra-120 Extreme, Big Typhoon, etc.). The PSU's overkill, try a 550W, or if you really think you need more room for expansion, 620W.

The cooler you listed, how low will that bring your CPU temp?
I was thinking if you did some research on it.

Why get a 550W PSU when the 750W PSU is the same price? The efficiency is the same (>= 80% @ 50% and 100% load @ 40* C).
For graphics, I'll just get one 4850 then. Maybe when they drop in price, I'll CF them.
DDR2 RAM is dirt cheap ATM. It's about to be outdated soon by DDR3 (1-2 years). I'll save a max of $50 with 4GB.
So, final cost after rebates is around $900.
