I have a ghetto instant messenger that seems to connect fine on localhost, but it can't connect in LAN or the actual internet.
During LAN, it connects, then exits so then I assume that it did not connect and in the internet, the server doesn't even receive a signal from the client.
Does anyone know why? Do I have to connect to a VPN or port forward anything?
Edit: Uploaded for testing.

| Well, have you tried forwarding the port in your router (assuming you have a router).

| Try setting the host to 127.0.0.1 and see if you can run both server and client and connect. If you can't then it's probably a programming error, else it's a connection error.

try making a mini connection to by pass your router

I know for sure it's a connection error, but I just don't know why. I'll try what Box said and see if it works (and if I have time, I'll post the source).

and my sisters is
192.168.1.97
and dont use 127.0.0.1
/\ This is the error i made, when i tried and failed...

I'm sort of not that dumb (no offense). I know all the LAN IPs tried them and doesn't work. I'll test it again today with the ports forwarded.

Intra-lan connections do not require port forwarding.

Theoretically there can be special rules for WLAN, but usually WLAN should get the same treatment. What kind of router do you have?

It should act like a direct line in, no matter the router.
