I've heard of people calling kernel APIs in applications in order to get control of the stuff that you usually can't do in Windows. I've seen people create drivers and load them into memory at application runtime, then send messages to the driver, but I don't think that's the usual way to do it. I can't seem to find any info on google. Any ideas?

The reason I ask is that I'm trying to code a slack space wiping tool, and need to get direct access to disk sectors.

you need to write a device driver that will run in the kernel, in order to check check harddrive sectors and get the privilege to communicate with hardware.

You can call a native API via ring3.
