| I found that anti-virus slows my system, and is all around not a good thing for it. I've been running without AV for almost a year now, and I have never had a virus. I personally think that a virtual machine with Comodo firewall to test programs on is better then AV, because, with the help of wireshark, it can detect undetected viruses.

I usually run without Antivirus on, but I do have one around [disabled, ofc] to do scans and what not of suspicious objects and a full HDD scan every now and then.
If you dislike large anti-virus that hog resources, then you'll like ESET's NOD32. Low resources. Warning: Causes certain VALVe games to screw you with a BSOD.
If not NOD32, go for Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. It is my personal favourite ATM.

| Yea, I had NOD32 for a while, I liked it but it deleted files that I didn't it want it to. (I knew they were viruses, I was decompiling them because they were botnets and I was going to steal them.)

That poses a problem although you could go in to the control center and check out the advanced setup tree to demand a prompt before taking action.
I like to be prompted. Don't like anything doing shit without my permission.
But if you didn't like that, don't get KIS. I couldn't even get a RapidLeecher going with KIS on. Shit was fucking intense.

| Yea I had it so it would prompt me what do to, so when I opened the virus in ollydbg it was corrupt, so I uninstalled the AV and tried again. It worked. I guess it doesn't like me.

Probably 'Auto-Cleaned' the virus causing it to become corrupted.
Well as long as you know what you are doing and have good feel over your computer, you don't need an Anti-Vir.
I usually have mates coming here and using my compy, so I have to have KIS open. Then later remove the shit they needed for their thumb drives or whatever....
