Well, I'm planning on building a custom made gaming computer with some left over scraps that I can salvage from my 1990 computer. I plan to buy an AMD motherboard with an AMD dual core processor. I was wondering if my Nvidia card will be able to work with the board. I heard people say that only ATI/Radeon cards will work on an AMD motherboard. Could someone please clarify? Thank you. |

No, as long as the motherboard has pci-e 16x it's good to go with both nvidia/radeon(you can of course use agp as well, but it's kind of outdated) |

You won't be salvaging any parts from that old computer, especially since your new one's for gaming.
I prefer Intel over AMD for gaming, but that doesn't have much to do with your question. NVIDIA cards can work in AMD motherboards, as long as the interface is right. _________________

Doesn't seem like a computer from 1990. If the new computer's motherboard comes with integrated graphics, there's a chance the integrated graphics will be better than the 6200 PCI card. Only if you have a comparably good integrated graphics cards (Intel GMA 3100/GMA 4500 and equivalent). _________________

Thanks for the answers guys. I was just asking because I have never bought an AMD board before and I would assume they would want their customers to use their own manufactured graphic cards (radeon). Anyways, This is the board that I am going to buy.
AMD Motherboard
I don't think it has integrated graphics unless someone can tell me if its better than my current PCI slot one.

Basing performance off of this review, it looks like the integrated graphics are better. I know that the GMA 3100 is the approximate equivalent of an ATI Radeon 9600XT AGP 8x card, which is far more powerful than the 6200 PCI. Above that, the X1250 outperforms the GMA 3100 in most cases.
I can't believe that EVGA is selling that card for $50, you can easily get something from Newegg for $20 more that will be more than 10 times faster. Let alone selling it at all. _________________

| Would you happen to know which one was released first? The 6200 PCI or the Radeon Xpress 1250. I usually base how good a card is on when it was released as things get better and better later on. |

No, you shouldn't base it on what was released first. A high end ATI Radeon graphics card from 2002 can beat the best integrated graphics available today.
But if you really wanted to know, you could have tried Wikipedia for the ATI Radeon X1250 and the NVIDIA GeForce 6200.
The X1250 was released on August 29, 2006, and the 6200 was released during 2004. _________________

| Thanks. Just one last question. Would I have to install any drivers for the onboard card? I know you would have to install a driver for a PCI/PCI-E card but what about onboards? |

Yes, the onboard graphics processor still needs drivers, but it should be included on your motherboard disc, or you can get it from the internet. _________________

| Alright, thanks again. I think I plan to use my old computer to test programs and stuff. I'm using my new computer to do some animating (3D studio Max) and some high end gaming. |

I would suggest you get a much better graphics card/processor if you are going to be doing heavy video animation and gaming. All integrated graphics processors as of now are only good for basic "budget" computers that don't do much more than surf the web, Word processing, and simple games. _________________
