|
|
Well Booted down my computer physically due to screen freezing etc. Once I tried to boot it up again it appeared with options to boot. Safe Mode, Safe mode with Network, Safe Mode with command prompt, Reboot from last working configuration settings, boot normally. I can turn it on but once it goes to the windows loading screen it reboots and repeats process.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

| BSOD! Theres 2 ways i know to fix it. The 1st one required loading DOS off a windows disk and the second is re-installing windows.

Sounds like the physical boot down actually caused some damage for once; probably corrupted some system files.
Try running the original Windows CD to scan for missing/corrupt files and replace them.

funny enough I had a friend who just had the same problem,
slaved his hard drive to another pc and found he had picked up a virus,
got rid of the virus and he could boot from that hard drive again, bit sluggish so needs a cleanup then a system restore,
he had warning signs with his pc getting slower over the preceding days till it locked up and he had to switch off the power, not good,
generally speaking you can usually do a repair from a rescue disk supplied with your pc or with the windows installation disk,
even better if you made some emergency recovery disks,
but when you get your system running again you want to update your antivirus and do a full system scan and make sure it can have permission to clean out the system volume folder which contains your system restore files

I have my windows CD and run the system repair. It opens a prompt. Still puzzled.

Just to check;
You made sure your disk drive was before your hard drive through the BIOS?
When attempting to repair, at this screen:
| Quote: | To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3. |
You pushed ENTER, accepted the license agreement, and then chose Repair?
