I would fully choose the alainware.

And that is definetely enough to run vista smoothly.
Alianware is a good company, although they are pricey but your getting a good deal here.

It depends on what setup you are going to use in the Alienware. A Phenom 9850 should outperform an E6420.

I'd seriously go for none of them, but if I'd have to choose I would choose the Dell one.(Yes, I know. Dell fails hard).
Alienware -> amd phenom(4cores, not two intel core 2 duos merged)
Dell -> intel core 2 duo e6420(2 cores)

Youd rather have 2 cores instead of 4? Silly Razz

Id like neither though. Building is easy! Just build one!

Amd phenoms 4core is actually 4 cores, intels quad cores are 2 merged dual cores.

It's proven that dual cores beats quadcores in games, hence why I'd buy the dual core one.

Amd phenom is 4 soloed cores, Intels core quad duo is 2 dual cores merged together.
This does not mean that amd is better. It is actually more "buggier" than intels are.
