| Im currently using Avira Antivir and it's really starting to piss me off with the ad every update. So my question is if there is any good FREE Antiviruses out there? I've tried AVG already and didn't like it because of the virus scanning time.

What about bitdefender 10 free version? I'm not really sure if it's free to use when download or only a trial though.
If you want better antivirus (but not free), the way is to look on warez. Look for the one such as NOD32, Bitdefender Internet Security 2008, Kaspersky.

BitDefender Free doesn't have realtime scanning.

Looking on warez sites is the worst way to get free premium applications. The only thing you get is a slew of nasty viruses and malware, and more porn popups than you can click on. There are much better ways of getting free premiums...like p2p. Torrents are good for this sort of thing.

NOD32 Antivirus, or Smart Security.
Awesome, especially if you are an avid gamer
I hear AVG is great at the moment for detection rates though, plus its completely free. Dunno what its like for system resource usage though having not sampled it myself

| I use F-Secure and I hear it's used by most PC technicians. It's not free but I'm sure some warez sites have it (although I wouldn't recommend getting it from one).

F-Secure has kind of lost its edge now. It was one I used to used, when it was on par with Eset NOD32.
Everyone is going to have their own suggestion/opinion here, and most people have already suggested a totally different one.
I'm just going on the best I have found after many years of been an engineer. I have never stuck to one, and have gone around most of the major ones...
