So, my computer has 512MB of ram, and I was thinking of buying a 1Gig.
I know nothing about ram, and I was wondering if there is like a certain kind I need for my computer, or if I can just go to like BestBuy and buy some..

k, I figured I need ddr2.
I got another question now...
If I buy a 1gig stick, can I use both a 1gig and 512 and have like 1512 gig?

You should never mix RAM, it usually gives bad results...

Most of the time, the motherboard will clock down the higher speed ram to whatever the lower speed is set at.
OR it might just not work, idk?

Out of all the people I've seen try it, maybe 1 got it to work decently.
Not very high %.

| It will work fine. It will just automatically scale to speed the if there's slower RAM in.

1gig = 1024.
1024+512 = 1536.

Just buy two of the same kind. If you want 1GB ram, buy two 512mbs or just one 1GB and take out the 512 you already have. Although, I do recommend that you buy two 1GB ram sticks.

RAM is pretty cheap, get a dual channel PC5400 OCZ stick. They are very, VERY high quality, they look sexy, and they are durable and reliable too.
You could find one for $50-$60
