So far I only know about the core clock rate and the video RAM amount are two big factors to deciding whether a card is good or not. But I don't know anything about the what the other specifications mean? Can anyone direct me or give me some advice on how to decide whether a display card is good or not?

I am planning to build a new PC, and that will be for mainly gaming.

Read Some Reviews, And Look For Benchmark Comparisons.

Heres how you do it. Sum your question up in about a 3~7 word question and type it in google. Thats what i do and it works every time. Enjoy.

- Speed
- Video Ram
- Features (Pixel Shader version, Shader Model version)
- Connection types (DVI, VGA, TV-Out/In, etc.)
- Max resolution supported

Just some things I look at before considering a card.

Well, clock rate alone means almost nothing unless you're comparing two otherwise identical cards.

It's best to check benchmarks, especially for the games you intend to play. tomshardware.com has a pretty big list of GPU benchmarks.

A card can have seemingly good specs looking at it on paper, yet perform terribly in the real world, so it's best to check benchmarks to get a more accurate idea.
