| Lets say a techie has 10 customer that wants a full system reformat. Would the techie go out and buy like 10 licences for like windows xp retail price or would he use a illegal version but its is genuine.think about it. buying new licenses for each customer would cost more then the price being charge for the service. |

I believe it would be up to the client to pay for the OS, or else the techie can charge for the OS and the service. _________________

That was one of the bigger issues I had to deal with. I started with using illegitimate copies, but as the business got bigger it got too risky, so I had to start using legit copies. Keep copies of each kind of Windows disc, and try to recover the key from the old install and use that. If all else fails, tell the customer they have to buy a new copy, if they don't wanna spend that much, then nothing you can do about it really.
It's not like your own system where you have basically no chance of getting caught, all it takes is one customer turning you in and you're looking at huge fines and/or jail time, so make sure you don't turn to piracy. |

so if you buy it yourself, and just use the code you originally got, its not illegal? even if you use it on multiple computers that arent yours... ? _________________

yeah tahts what i needed to know. it just seems expensive to buy a new licenses everytime. i know of asian owned computer tech stores that use illegal disk, because one time my mb broke down. he sed he could get a new mb 164$ and a full reformat for $20. i was like thats bs, it clearly shows that he uses illegal version.
to madman: you cant use the say licence key for like more then one machine. if you could they might as well make windows xp free

If you use a copy of a disc but a legit key, it's okay, you're still using a legit license. You can't use a license on multiple computers, that's only for corporate discs and they have to all be computers of the same corporation and have a deal with MS and all that.
In almost all cases, there's a sticker with the CD key somewhere on the case, just use that and you'll be fine. |

oh ok, so basically you'd only need to get a license if they dont have a sticker. _________________
