Is THIS the 8800GT card that i want to buy... i just want one of the normal plain ol' ones, but my mom wants to buy it from Best buy and this is all they have.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8594381&st=8800+GT&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1190678470708

Looking at the reviews on there, it doesn't seem to be a nice a card due to heat. With most motherboards today, your system will have a thresh hold that is controllable by your video card as well. Which means your video card has the ability to shut off your system at random when the temperature exceeds a limit. Unless you plan to spend some more money along with that video card I'd suggest against that one.

As for your direct question, it is a different company "put-out" of the card. The main difference when a company puts out a card under their own name is the driver used by the hardware. Most cards come from the same place, with different "brand-names" labeled on them.

I had two variations of an old Nvidia Geoforce FX 5600 Ultra, and the only difference between the two was a tweaked driver and a sticker on the card. (I'd figure it would be the same for others.) Among other differences, there would be hardware overclocking added / changed to the card as well as different cooling. But the overall "card" itself would remain the same.

That aside though, a friend of mine as dual 8800's via SLI and I'd have to say it's a nice card and worth it's money. But be sure to invest in better cooling if you haven't already.

OC means it's overclocked if that's what you're asking. Overclocking is running at a higher than stock clock rate so the card will be a little faster than a standard one. The 8800GT is an excellent card though Very Happy

yeah, thats a 8800gt, just overclocked and manufactured by BFG, if you get heat problems just lower the clock back to standard.

the 8800's are rated ridiculously high temperature wise.

I think they are supposed to be OK around like 110c?!

I wouldn't recommend it, but the cards don't seem to have a problem with it either way, that's kind of pushing it though. being able to boil water with your video card is pretty amesome though.
