No, they are the pinnacle of the attention whore breed. They have led such picture perfect lives that they are bored to a point we have yet to understand. Hence, they think they are depressed, while really they are just extremely bored. They dress up in little dark outfits thinking that they are elusive and unique, while in reality there are millions of them. Although some of them do actually cut themselves, they rarely kill themselves. They do it for the attention mostly. The more cuts on your arm you have, the cooler you are in emo-circles. Not to mention the extra attention you will get from psychologists and your family.
In my eyes they are the worst thing to have walked the surface of the earth since Jesus. They shine a bad light on the truly depressed, who are now even more insecure about sharing their depression with someone else. Causing them to become suicidal because they bottle up their feelings to the point of an emotional explosion.

Emos are really just a group of peopole who think they have it bad when in reality they have it better than most people do. or they're parents are too stupid to realize whats going on.
that or "from urban dictionary" Genre of softcore punk music that integrates unenthusiastic melodramatic 17 year olds who dont smile, high pitched overwrought lyrics and inaudible guitar rifts with tight wool sweaters, tighter jeans, itchy scarfs (even in the summer), ripped chucks with favorite bands signature, black square rimmed glasses, and ebony greasy unwashed hair that is required to cover at least 3/5 ths of the face at an angle.
levels of emo:
1. Eye-liner
2. dying hair black and painting nails
3. Stupid conversations while playing hacky-sack
4.the clothes with all the skulls and spiky hair
5. Dog collars with spikes and wristbands with chains, metal, spikes on them.
6. Piercings everywhere (mouth, nose, eyes, belly, Tits)
7. beginning to worship the devil and listening to songs that really are only just one guy screaming loudly into a microphone.
8. cutting on the forarms, thighs, calves (ataying away from the big veins for now)
9. Cutting along the wrists
10. (idiot takes cutting to far and cuts too deep) or guy just kills himself. either way works out for everyone.
