I've been reading several tutorials on how to hook text from an emulator, for example, the one by MX-Futhark, on the Hook Any Text plugin site.
However, I've become stuck at the part of finding the addresses. In particular, I want to hook the text from a Japanese game (Fullmetal Alchemist 3: Kami o Tsugu Shōjo).
I'm running it in the PCSX2 emulator, have the MEM_MAPPED option checked, and have tried converting the text (as seen in-game) to hex using both Shift-JIS, UTF-8 and UTF-16. But Cheat Engine doesn't seem to find any of the resulting hex strings.
Perhaps in-game text isn't real text, but just images; however, it would be a bit strange. The text shows pretty much as in any visual novel, which makes me think that it's not just a static image. Or perhaps this game uses an altogether different text encoding? Am I doing something wrong?
I'm totally new to this stuff.
