Hello folks! Brand new here but been using CE for a very long time now.

I'm currently trying to well, I'm not sure. The game is Halo 2 and I've located the address for Active Camouflage, however upon reaching a checkpoint the address seems to jump to an address I cannot track or find again.

I'm only able to find the cooldown timer to freeze it or leave myself permantly camouflaged indefinitely, but this does not help me the slightest as the address changes, so I'm assuming it's not the base address?

Any help or suggestions? I've been trying to figure this out for about 3 weeks Razz

well, of course not base address.
why not pointer scan that address, or if u want a better way use aob script.

None to familiar with pointer scan unforunately, guess I better learn.

The address I have doesn't change even if restarted, I just cannot find it's base address.

My attempts at finding the base address result in, nothing. Or maybe I'm doing something completely wrong haha.

I'll have another crack at it using pointerscan right now. Basically when I edit the 'base address' that I find, it still undoes itself when the game loads the next checkpoint.

When I debug to find out accesses/writes to the opcode I found, I run a scan on the 'base address' or pointer it finds and it just redirects me to the address that I am currently editing.

I agree with OldCheatEngineUser, your wording is very vague. Can you tell us exactly what you are doing?

It might help to do the pointer scan portion of the Cheat Engine tutorial. Are you familiar with pointers?

Not online no, the Halo 2 servers have been shutdown for a while. I have no interest in hacking online games.

I am not familiar with pointers sorry.

It's like this is the base address for Checkpoint 0 and theres base addresses for checkpoint X to Y to Z that I have to find, it feels like theres no global address.

And this is embarassing, I just realised I've been searching the wrong values, I want to reduce the battery recharge to instant instead of having to wait 15 seconds for it to recharge.

Hope I explained it a little better, it's a very strange circumstance which I cannot understand or word properly myself.

EDIT : Found a GREEN address for the battery recharge, however changing the value or freezing it does nothing at all.

The attachment shows the address I found which was green, changing it or freezing it does nothing, seeing what writes/accesses it produces unmanageable results.

Halo 1 had static addresses, probably same in Halo 2. But use code injection if the code is accessing your camouflage or battery recharge.

You don't need pointers. In case of static addresses, that is the base.

Paid game, I bought it a very long time ago.

If i'm to understand, the green codes are static addresses right?

Code injection? Sounds like I have so much more to learn haha.

yes green are static, in 99.99(infinite line of nines) its static.
unless if game developer managed to place a new value at some point then restore it i dont know.

EDIT: NOTE:
static addresses (green) can represent the display value too, so keep in mind too.

This green address I have and a different address which isn't green is representing the recharge timer, however changing both of those have no effect what so ever.

It doesn't matter how many searches I do, I always come back to this Green and Grey address.

so there gotta be something checking the value and comparing it and doing some calculation.

see what writes to them (both) lets hope you end with the same instruction.

disassemble that instruction and go couple bytes above that instruction, check if theres compares "CMP" or "TEST", sometimes its not cmp or test.

sometimes it can be "XOR" instruction. it really depends on the game. i faced this problem couple times in many offline games.

also i want to mention in some cases all this wont work or help, you must break and trace to the root. (only in some cases).

I have two TEST right above and a XOR above that.

If I NOP all three of them, the entire cooldown/recharge state is disabled.
