It's defective. According to the seller, he said that he can't find the drivers to get it connected to the wifi/internet.

the laptop is a Lenovo thinkpad w530 2013

Here are the specs:

i7-3740 qm cpu 2.7 ghz ram 8.00 gb hard drive 167

He originally is planning to sell it for $450

I got him down to $300

Will get him down to $150-$200 when I talk to him in person.

The laptop itself works according to the seller, just can't connect to the internet. Which I will all check before I purchase.

My questions:

1. If the above is true, whats the price that's worth to purchase this?
2. Is this fixable?
3. If not, are there work-arounds?
4. If not, can I either resell it for more, or pretty much find a way to not lose money out of this.
5. How much would it cost if I need to have a more experienced person to fix it?
6. Are there leverages I can use to get Lenovo to get this fixed/replaced/refunded?
7. What should I check on the laptop before I purchase?
8. What questions should I ask?
9. Should I even bother?

Other notes:
-The seller is very open to communication.
-Will give him a call as well before I visit.
-Gives me all the information I need without seemingly sounding like he's hiding something.
-Willing to let me play around with it before I purchase
-Had already planed to sell it to his dad for $100 but wanted to go higher with me for $300 (which is why I think I'll be able to get it down to $200)
-He's not computer saavy

Let me know what you guys think, thanks!

1. From a quick look at completed listings on ebay, it seems like they're going for around $300-$450. He's obviously done some research.

2. Sure. I've had to reinstall network drivers once before; it's not terrible as long as you can find them. The first result on Google looks good in this case.

7/8. Verify all the peripherals work (all the keys, trackpad, speakers, external ports, monitor, webcam, optical drive, microphone).
Check the case and screen for any damages (scratches, dents, dead pixels, etc.).
Look at the battery life and factor in the cost of a new battery if needed.
Verify you're getting the power adapter too (and that it works).
Check if there's any warranty.
Check the temperature of the core hardware components after several minutes of use. New thermal paste might need to be applied if stuff is already hot and you didn't do much of anything.
If you want to, carefully open up the case and make sure there aren't any dead rats inside.
Get all the needed passwords (e.g. bios) before you buy it.

Thanks for the info. I'm actually planning to get another laptop of the same model, but different person. Got him down to around $650 price range by requesting to reduce 16GB ram from 32 he had

The specs are:

-i7 3720qm 2.6ghz up to 3.6ghz 8 core
-1920 x 1080p resolution
-upgraded with 250gb solid state drive
-16gb RAM with lots of room to add more hard drives
-4 RAM slots
-Has the better K2000m video card which twice the CUDA processing as the K1000m
-upgraded triple antenna Intel Ultimate 6300 450 Mbps wifi card.
-extended battery and an extra spare one

I think it's too risky going with the other guy plus going to be using the same laptop for the next 10 years for work. I'd rather not loose sleep at night aha.

If you are just going to use it for microsoft office I would suggest you to get some laptop with integrated GPU.
Also do you really need hyper threading? What kind of work are you doing?
You will pay higher price in your energy bills. Charging 2 batteries could be real pain.
