Ok guys, new user of cheat engine here. I am going through the tutorial, and I am on the Step 4: Floating points. I follow the instructions but the values are not showing up the address box on the left.
I hit new scan and set the value to 100.
Scan Type is set to exact value
Value type is set to float.
I hit the scan button and 35 address's come up. Then I hit the hit me button and the value drops to 96.57, I put in the new value and then hit next scan and nothing pops up.
I cannot find anything on this, any help would be really appreciated.
Floating point numbers are approximations. Technically, they can only perfectly store numbers that can be represented as a finite sum of integer powers of 2. 96.57 is not in that set of numbers, but the next best thing (96.56999969 for the float type) is in that set of numbers.
CE changes how it does an exact value scan based on the selected rounding type (on the right). If you search for 96.57 and have "Truncated" selected, it will give you values between 96.57 and 96.58. If you have "Rounded (default)" selected, it will give you values between 96.565 and 96.575. For "Rounded (extreme)", it's any number between 96.56 and 96.58. Since you never know how a program chooses to round its numbers, I usually go with "Rounded (extreme)" if I'm doing exact value searches.
Because you left the rounding type at "Truncated" and the real value was less than the value you searched for, it won't come up. That's one of the reasons why it suggests you to experiment with other types of value scans too. _________________
I don't know where I'm going, but I'll figure it out when I get there.
