|
|
Hi,
I am thinking about getting new hardware. Why? My pointer scans take too long!!
What I have now:
- core i5 2500k (old sandy bridge) 4 cores
- 16gb ddr3
- samsung evo 840 evo 250 gb ssd. (but pointer scans go to a dedicated hdd because I don't have enough space on my ssd)
I hate to wait for my pointer scans to finish so this is what I want to buy:
- Intel Core i7 5820K 6x 3.30GHz (6 cores, 12 threads)
- 16GB HyperX FURY black DDR4-2666 DIMM CL15 Dual Kit
- keeping the ssd
Will pointer scans be significantly faster with this setup? What about a dedicated SSD for pointer scan files?
What size is recommended for the SSD?
Thanks |

RAM size and speed and CPU power are the important things for the pointerscan.
16GB is good enough for most scans (it's recommended to have at least twice the amount of RAM that the target game will eat up )
5960X is even better (8 cores, 16 threads)
As for harddisk space, when next version comes out (someday) , and you use it correctly, diskspace should be a non-issue. (The recommended way to scan for pointers is then to generate multiple pointermaps and use those to filter out the useless results on the fist scan)
For the current version I recommend at least 2TB , so I don't think a SSD is a recommended option for pscan files (While waiting for the pscan, check the percentage used for writing. If it's below 50%, then an SSD won't be of much help)
Also, next version makes the network version of the pointerscanner a bit easier. (You can add and remove scanners at runtime) so it may be worthwhile, if you can, to try to keep the old mainboard and cpu in a semu workable state. (old hdd with at least a 64-bit windows, psu that's just enough, case is optional...) _________________

Yesterdays pointer scan showed that writing was usually at 0.2%.
The 5960X is a little bit too expensive for me
Do you you have a rough comparison on how much faster the pointer scan would be with the new cpu/ram? |
