specifically 992 results as possible addresses that should be pointing at my 2-byte value address (when searching for the hexadecimal value).
offset is just 7a.
not 0000007a, just +7A. Not sure if that means anything.
Searching for the "probably is this address" as a 4-byte hexadecimal turns up nothing. Searching for it as a 2-byte yields 992 results.
Almost all of the results, with the added offset of 7a, have an = that is not = to the original address
rewritten: New address from 'hexadecimal search' + 7a offset as a pointer = [ADDRESS THAT IS NOT THE LOCATION OF THE ADDRESS/VALUE THAT CHEAT ENGINE RECOMMENDED AS 'PROBABLY THE PLACE'], and many of them have a value of ??? when inserted into the cheat table with the offset.
basically asking for troubleshooting and help.

Skip all of this nonsense and use the pointer scanner. Even better, use injection.

use pointer scanner. save result, reload game, and rescan using the save to narrow down the results.

What is the instruction that writes the value ? (Not just the offset, as the probable value line can be wrong if it's a read)
Before wasting a lot of time, does changing the value have an effect in the game? If not, pointers will not help you here
If you do use the pointerscan tell it to use unalligned pointers because 7a is unalligned
Same goes for manual scanning. Turn off fast scan when searching for the pointervalue using 4 byte (don't do 2 byte)
If all else fails, try code injection
Also, since it's a 2 byte value, do you run this game in some sort of emulator like dosbox? If so, you won't be able to find the pointer at all and code injection won't work either

yes changing the value affects the game
lots of instructions write the value if I'm interpreting what you're saying correctly
I turned off "addresses must be 32-bit aligned"
not sure where fast scan option is or searching using 4 byte, how to do it.
code injection is on my list of things to try.
The game as far as I know is not in an emulator. It's a game from 1998 called Myth II Soulblighter
