It disables patchguard so you can do kernelmode hooks if you like

It looks very interesting. Even though I don't need it, at least there is an easy alternative for those who can't use DBVM. Thanks for posting it.

If that makes a difference for dbvm then what kind of error would you normally get? (Bsod 101 is patchguard, freeze or clock timeout is dbvm encountering an event that hasn't been programmed in)

Getting a crash on Windows 8.1 x64, with:
File: \Windows\system32\winload_kppd.exe
Status: 0xC0000428
Info: The digital signature for this file couldn't be verified.
Any ideas how I could fix this?

Does this work on Windows 8.1 Pro?
It says it is patched however when I restart and boot as the new file, it doesn't work and just goes into repair mode. Then it fails to repair?

Hi. I'm running Win8.1 x64 Pro (fresh install) fully updated with driver signature enforcement turned off.
Here's how it went out for me:
KPP-Destroyer-P1 goes into repair mode every single time.
KPP-Destroyer-P3:
1st boot: PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
2nd boot: PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
3rd boot: booted fine
4th boot: 0xc000021a
5th boot: 0xc000021a
6th boot: repair
7th boot: 0xc000021a
8th boot: repair
9th boot: PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
10th boot: booted fine
11th boot: 0xc000021a
12th boot: PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
13th boot: repair
... so it seems to work 2 out of 13 times.

Updated to Patch 4, I finally got my hands on a device with this error and managed to fix it.

the same thing is happening with my i7 3820. 8 logical cores (hyperthreading enabled) makes dbvm crash. ht disabled (4 phys 4 logical) works.
EDIT: NO, the problem is not with HT. I can only use dbvm without crashing to 'clock watchdog' if I go to the 'msconfig' and set manually the number of cores to 2 or 3. It doesn't matter if HT is on or off. Very weird.

every time DBVM offloads a CPU to DBVM there is a chance the system will crash.
The more cpu's the more chance.
See it like a lottery ticket with a 1 in 5 chance of 'winning' a crash (freeze/ reboot/ clock timeout bsod)
Not sure why it crashes though\
since you have an intel CPU you might be able to boot up with DBVM so you don't need to do the runtime offloading (of course, DBVM sucks at real-mode emulation, which tends to happen during boot)

Here is an updated version of KPP-Destroyer I made. It has a configuration file so you can customize various things:
Code: | [Config]
; Configure the boot store, leave empty for default (useful in some dual boot cases).
Store=E:\Boot\BCD
; Configure the winload.exe name (max 8 characters), leave empty for random.
Loader=osloader
; Configure the ntoskrnl.exe name (max 8 characters), leave empty for random.
Kernel=ntkrnlmp |
Changes:
- Hooked random number generator (always return
- Hooked random name generator (for static name option)
- Various patches to change bcdedit commands (to include the /store option)
