i am trying to install DD-WRT onto my new D-link DIR-615 router
I've been following this guid
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/D-Link_DIR-615_rev_E3
I have downloaded dir615[revision]-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin
and hex edited the magic number on the end (after checking the original firmware)
But when i try and "update" the router it comes up with the message
Code: | The chosen file is not an image file. |
Can some one help?

Sounds like you did it wrong or corrupt the file.

Double-check that you properly saved the file and didn't corrupt the size when hexing the new ID into the end of the file. Make sure that you overwrote the old ID and not add extra data to the file that shouldn't be there.
You could also try downloading the file with a different browser if the file itself is corrupted.

Okay, i followed that exactally and managed to install DD-WRT
The router re-booted and i was able to get a WiFi connection
However, none of the LAN ports will respond, the computer doesnt even
register the cable plugged in.
Im able to edit the settings though 192.168.1.1 and configure everthing
and when i put the router into "emergency room interface" the LAN port
starts flashing again and im able to pick up signal through it, however no
"emergency room interface" appears for me to revert the router to factory settings..

So you cannot default? Its normally under administration. When I did dd-wrt I had to make sure the router was defaulted to start with, but you did this straight out of the box right?

Flash it via wifi?
It didn't copy the fucking dd-wrt.wiki.com shit asjdhflasdfhaskd god damn it. Always happens to me :L
http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/D-Link_DIR-615_rev_E3 I meant to post that cause I saw the r193453 build disabled the wifi ports,.
Quote: | I just bricked my DIR-615D3 with the latest firmware 12-20-11-r18024, I'd strongly suggest avoiding it. All the LAN ports have stopped working, I can see that the internet connection works but I can't connect to it since I had the wireless disabled beforehand. Tried resetting it back for factory settings, no help.
I was using 12-09-11-r17990 before this and it worked just fine, no clue why I was so anxious to update it to the latest again...
Any idea how this could be resolved?
EDIT: Used the Emergency Web Room to revert back to the factory firmware and then upgraded back to 12-09-11-r17990 and it's working fine again. Would suggest putting a warning on the front page for people not to use the r18024 one.
r18007 and below works, r18024 will disable LAN ports. You don't have to go to the emergency web room to revert back however. Just flashing another firmware than r18024 through WiFi will do the trick. |

Thankyou Saifallofjmr
I was able to update the firmware through Wifi which i thought wasn't possible? to r18007 and it's now working perfectly
+rep but still disabled...
So now that it's a fully functional DD-WRT router, any one suggest anything performance enhancing that i should know about?

Just look through everything, and figure things out. Only thing I think you might do is QoS
