I want to hook up an old 12v computer fan on one of my old psu to add on my laptop cooler using the 4 pic molex connector. I will use the 12v wire (yellow) and the ground wire next to it (black) and plug my fan's red and black wire onto them; yellow = red, black = black.
Will this be okay? As in the fan, not breaking apart or spontaneously combusting?
I have included a diagram of what ill be doing with the fan along with where they're going to be connected.

As long you are using the correct voltage then it's fine. Looks like the 12v fan you're using doesn't follow industry color standards where as yellow is 12v and red is 5v. They just used red and black where red= power and black= ground.

Post a pic of the fan and its connector.

Post a pic of the fan and its connector.

I'm only using 2 old athlon 2200+ stock coolers and wire them on series or parallel. i might take pictures later and upload them here. btw, the cooler uses the 3 pin connector: red, black and blue (for sensors).

Edit:
I have successfully connected the fan to the molex connector and it works Very Happy. Also, i've made a housing for the fan out of a pizza box! Masterfully crafted with my own bare hands using just that pizza box and the fan!
The fan is hooked up on 12v, runs fast but loud. However, the fan does cool down my laptop from 55-60C to 45-55C with all the fans and vents of the laptop fully cleaned.

Wire it to a usb cord to draw power from the 5v line (red to red or pin 1) and the black to the ground (black to black or pin 4).

I just did this myself with an old 120mm fan, get a usb A to usb B cable, cut off the B end and then strip the wires, same for the fan strip the red/black. Connect them, and usb a usb android phone charger to test before you shrink tube/tape it up. Mine works and pushes out a good mount of air with my USB 3.0 ports on my laptop. Took me a total of 25 minutes with just a fan and a little dull swiss army knife. I used packaging tape.

Really it can be any cord as long as the end is a regular usb cable.
