I've read through 2 books of C++, and I am currently on GUI programming, and next I was wondering if I can make a simple 2d game. I would like to use SDL with OpenGL to also make 3d games later. I was wondering if it was a good choice to use SDL, and if there were any good books or tutorials I could find that aren't out dated (I read something about OpenGL have fundamental things deprecated).
If you can, what are some good, yet very basic, 2d games with SDL that I can read the source code of? Maybe just a board game, block breaker, or r-type kind of game.
Thanks

I'm pretty much at the same stage as you, and I'm using SDL. It's perfect for my 2D needs, and the guide Slovach posted is the one that helped me start on it.

After going up to tutorial 20, I discovered SFML. I recommend it to any other beginner C++ game programmer.
