Progress.
before first wait, i get:
IA30_VMX_MISC=0x00000401C5
before second wait I get:
Calling vmxloop with currentcpuinfo=000043d480
Then I see in orange BOOT at the top of the screen, followed by a cursor flashing at the bottom.
Then hangs again.

That means it's in VMX mode and has successfully read the first hard disk sector.
try waiting 30 minutes when it appears to be hanging at boot
(and try different harddisks, and yes, really, 30 minutes, not 30 seconds)
dos mode emulation is slow(really slow in this specific version), but when it enters protected mode it'll be normal speed. (and especially vista has a slow bootup)
One way that sometimes works to figure out if it's crashed or still working is pressing the numlock key and check if the led goes on/off (might not work if it's a usb kb)
And in some situations you might actually see the hard disk led light up once in a while
oh yes, to be as compatible as possible, try booting of a cd-rom now. I've had 2 systems where the bios is somewhat buggy bios regarding bootable usb harddisks.
As long as it doesn't show up a message that it's failing (VMXLOOP EXIT)
it's still running.
Of course, if it has entered graphical mode, you won't be seeing that message.

I let it run on HD 80 for about 3 hours. Num lock does not do anything. Ie no light change. This is from a PS/2 keyboard.
Trying port 81 now, but num lock is frozen. As soon as I see the orange BOOT, everything freezes.
I'll keep trying different HD numbers, unless you have something else to try?

only thing I can suggest is booting with a cd-rom or floppy if you're not already doing that.
Also, harddisk leds stay dead ?
Problem here is that outputting debuginformation to the screen at this point isn't really an option so I can't really see what's going on.

On this comp it doesnt have a HD led unfortunately.
And yea I am trying the CD rom version now.
I'll try leaving it overnight and seeing it if ever loads any further.
I only see the BOOT, I never see the WEE or RAAH you talked about earlier.

The weee line is shown when it has executed the first instruction in vmx mode to show it's working.
BOOT means that it has managed to read a sector off the harddisk and is going to execute that now
RAAH means that it failed to read a sector off the harddisk
I've made a specific debug version that shows some basic debug info at the screen (it will probably cause a problem if it does boot and shows the graphical display, but as long as it's not even getting there, this might help in finding out the problem)
At least it'll show you if it's hanging or not

Just wanted to let ya know that even that didnt work.
I got one line of data, cant remember what it was, but it was only 1 line.
I've since just installed 32 bit OS and am using other methods..
If you ever put out a new version, please update this thread and I'll be happy to keep trying.

hmm, a shame.
Also, 1 line is all it gives, but that line should have changed a lot:
cpunr - eventnr - cs:eip - lasteventtype
This thing is impossible to test without a serial port telling exactly what goes wrong and/or letting you evaluate memory and cpu states
Anyhow, I may have something to test in a few days.
