Cheat Engine

Hey all,

First, got to say thanks to DarkByte for Cheat Engine. Excellent program! Great community too, I check the forum once in a while to see what's happening and look at tutorials and questions etc.

Anyway, I've signed up because I'm having a problem figuring DMA out! - here's what's happening, step by step:


1. Found the address (DMA) I need, which in this case was: 01619470

2. Find what writes to the address:
0040ad23 - 89 46 08 - mov [esi+08],eax

3. The value of the pointer needed to find this address is probably: 01619468

esi = 01619468
eax = 000002F7

4. Do a new Hex scan using: 01619468

5. Get a result of: 0223B366

6. Add a pointer:
0223B366

With offset:
38547D7

(To get the offset I'm using the following calculation:
0223B366+01619470

7. Which gives me: P->02254ACD and a value return of 0. The actual value I'm looking for should be 730.


Obviously I'm doing something majorly wrong here, so if anyone can kindly look at this and tell me where I'm going wrong and what I need to correct, it would be greatly appreciated!

The offset will be 08, and not 01619470
result = 0223B366+01619470
