Not sure about C4D but with 3DMax you can export transparent pngs when you have an animation. That would be better for an avatar.

When I tried to it exported ~60 .tif layers :\

Would exporting a TARGA file then editing it in photoshop work? That's how I make my C4D's transparent. Not sure how animation would effect it though.

You should just add an alpha channel and save as tif or png.

I can't save it as a png, it doesn't let me. I'll try tif next time.

Making my first animated one 3D stuffz. So far, the only way I can think of having a transparent BG, is by deleting the black BG in photoshop. Frame by frame.

Pretty time consuming, is there an easier way?

Awesome, testing it now.
EDIT: It created a png for each frame. How do I compress these into an animated png?

Like in step 4 of my tutorial.
Save as uncompressed .avi, then import into PS (cs3/4) or imageready.

If you're using PS, open the .avi and use these settings (file>save for web and devices) http://i31.tinypic.com/2lnddhs.jpg

Yes, but I'm trying to get it to have a transparent background.
