|
|
So, I have an old car I drive back and forth to work so as not to put miles on my good car. The car is a 92 Toyota Celica GT, 5 speed, engine is a 2.2.
Well, the other day it just up and died with no warning while I was driving, and won't start. It turns over and sounds like it wants to start, but won't. All fluid levels are good, I replaced the spark plugs about a week ago, just put a aftermarket intake on it a month or so with a new air filter, exhaust is in good condition. The battery and alternator are working correctly.
Any ideas?

Caddy could be shot.
Have you tried starting it while rolling?

That was my first thought, but I've tried jumping it off of a car with a very strong alternator and nothing.

You could try the starter or look for a loose battery wire. Test the connection at any Les Shwab.

Do you have a multimeter? You can confirm the battery isn't mysteriously hosed.
ehhuggh, ignition / solenoid problem maybe? Dunno if it would even try to turn over if this was it, actually. Probably just get a single click or nothing.
I'd try bump starting it.

So I did a little more messing around with it, the engine is definitely getting gas, but there's no spark on the spark plugs. The battery and alternator are definitely good, and the plug wires are in good condition. I'm guessing the ignition coil?

Correct. Did a little troubleshooting, found out it was the ignition coil, $30 later and with a lot of cursing trying to install it, it works beautifully now.
